Is Violence Normal in Our Society?

Today, violence is so common in our society; we can see people arguing, fighting and even the one who think that are not aggressive, well those are the most aggressive people. There are many channels of violence that we are living with every second. For example the TV set, computers, pornography, sexual commercials, radio, stadiums, etc. In general we can see violence everywhere, we just need to sit down in any place and just wait for two minutes, and we will hear people talking, saying bad words, and thousand of things that might be normal for everybody. I am sure that there will be some people that will be against with me, saying that not all the people are violent, but the truth is that yes they are. I would like to make them remember when they had a like discussion or arguing with some business partner or a sister, well in their minds, there was a little bit of violence, trying to make that person to understand what you want to explain. We are people that always like to have the reason, it is hard to accept when we are mistaken and that might cause sometime anger with yourself or somebody else.

In the case of the movie Funny Games, I think that was one of the best movies that I had seen. There are many reasons to think so. For instance, when I was watching the movie, I started to get in the movie, so I was thinking of some options about how I can escape if I were a member of that family. I could think a lot of my reactions when I was watching it, and I could conclude that all the time I was thinking of killing or trying to do something to those guys until I can save the family. This movie made me got out of the box, made me think that there is a lot of violence in my head, and in my actions. It is clear that I am not as aggressive as I think, but there are a lot of facts that if they are necessary, like a need to escape or safe my family, I will not doubt to react like that.

The idea of this interesting movie is to make the audience feel some of the pain of that family by been a victim of the violence, I am not saying that this movie is really bloody and a gore movie but, we can see how involving it is. At the begging we can see that this is not a typical movie from Hollywood, and that of course is not the idea of Funny Games; the essence of this movie is to disturb your feeling, by damaging and killing a happy family. The reason that they are making that family to suffer a lot is because they want to capture your attention by using one of the most important pillars of a person that is your own family. There are really heavy scenes that gave a big impression like when the killer shot his shotgun and destroys the child´s head. For me that was really impacting, because I have a little baby and I felt that I was the father and felt really bad about it.

Another scene that I was really impressed was in the moment when the mother could have the opportunity to take the shotgun and shot to one of the bad guys. To be honest I felt good when I saw that, because in my opinion, if I were her, I would do the same thing. And the sad part is that I am part of the violence, just because I thought that, that reaction was good, but the thing is that you are using violence to stop violence. This contradiction makes no sense of our principles and manners. It is totally the opposite, and not only because some people think that it is not violence, it is a way to survive. I am wondering, if I have the option to escape from the killers, and I kill them to be free, Am I really free? Well it really depends of the angle of the answer, in some point of view, I am free, I am safe, and I could escape from the bad guys. But am I totally free in my mind? To be frank, you are rotten in your mind, there is no sense to be free by using the violence; you are just another new member of the violence.

There are other facts about the movie that I paid attention and it was that each scene took a lot of time until they change to the next one, for example when the child try to escape out of the house, they filmed at least one minute the entire house form outside, making the audience to desperate for knowing what else is going to happen. We are people that to be honest, we like to see violence at movies, but not in this way, and we always want that the good people destroy and win to the bad people. But, this is totally the opposite of a normal movie, this try to create anxiety because you don´t really know what else is going to happen.

There is a phrase that I think it will be appropriately to this essay, and is “the appearance of a person, might be cheating on you”; well this is really a good example of the bad guys because them seems very polite, dressing white shorts and color of t-shirts, that made me think that there were good people and respectful, but we could see that it wasn’t like that. Another example of those false appearances is when we hear at the news everyday that some taxi drivers were assaulted by some good looking guys that were dressing smoking.

I could take some good things about this movie. First, I learned that watching a movie, you can be violent even if you are not moving, but you are thinking a lot of but thinks that you would do if you were one of the characters of the movie. Second, anxiety or desperation might cause on you violence reactions. Third, you need to be polite all the time if you want to receive the same thing.

The sexual commercials are just trying to catch the attention of the people and of course sell their products. They do not really think about of the problems that can appear with those commercials. By selling cigarettes, or publicity of discotheques, well there are many things that in the future, young people will see everything normal, there will be more drug addicts, more alcoholics, more diseases, and a lot of bad things that will affect the society in general.

For some people drinking alcohol is nothing to do with violence. For the company that sells these products are the same ideas, it is not bad for consumers. What they do not see, or do not want to see is that when somebody drinks alcohol, the control of their sense started to be harder, and they can produce many things like street fights, murders, discussions with their partners and so many things that they cannot really control.

One of the best movies that can explain the violence and gore is Saw. The Director of this movie wants to show the audience that you have to pay for all the bad things that you did in the past by suffering. You have to play some games and do humiliating things to survive or just face your actions by dying.

This movie is a good example of violence, gore and really bloody movie, because there are a lot of people that love to see this kind of movies. The question here is why do the people like to watch these movies? And there are many answers, people feel good when they see suffering to others, their pain, make the audience happy. This is crude but is the reality of our society; people just want to satisfy the need of seen violence to be happy. The problem is that the parents today, are so busy that are not controlling their children, so they get corrupted by media in general. Directors of movies can just say that they are just trying to entertain the audience and get as much revenue as they can. Well, this is a really violent way to be popular in the TV, and they are not helping to the society at all.

Everyday I see people driven their cars in an aggressive perspective, and I am one of them, we are always aware of every move of the cars and ready to use our horns just for discriminate of disturb everybody else in the way. We can see more accidents everyday too, and some of those accidents are because of the aggressively of the people, the ignorance and how violent they can turn when there are sitting in a big truck. The problem is also because people don’t feel the same when they are in their cars, they think that are protected by another machine so they can do whatever they want to.

As a conclusion, a simple word like violence can be listening to as a normal word that would not affect anybody. But if we see deeper about the meaning and experimented suffer and pain, then we will understand and try to change this problem of our society. People think that there is not problem in drinking or watching a movie and enjoy the bloody and gore scenes, but the reality is that violence cause more violence and if somebody wants to stop something by using his/her force, then they are using violence to try to stop violence. It is a contradictory dilemma, and the best way to stop spreading this problem is by starting educating our children, because we can teach them to live in a better society, it is only necessary to be right in what you are doing. There should be always values in a family and spread to everybody else until we change violence into harmony and respect.

Is Sex a Good Marketing Strategy?

It is clear that sex is a “good” strategy that companies and specially marketers use in order to increase the sell (sales) of the product. “The use of sexually suggestive images to sell just about everything really emphasizes the point that sex is a merchandiser's best friend”. (inventorspot). In the XXI century eroticism has gained prominence, but goes further, covering issues such as exhibitionism, sexual symbols, naked women, provocation, etc; that does not stop at showing scenes instead it is broken all established rules and certain moral principles.

Sex is a good issue that marketers use for increase the incomes such as AXE that uses sex as a marketing strategy and has made all the advertising campaigns with women who show their sensuality, and also they suggest that if you have sexual relations you're cool; it’s true that this strategy increase the incomes of the company that’s why the majority of men uses this product, not only because of the attributes of the product, but also because of the sexist thinking that this type of ads have been created. But at what cost they do this? They don’t think about the future of society; this means that tomorrow everyone will have to have sex to be cool or maybe to be accepted in a job or in a social group? Now we are facing a high percentage of early sexual activity.

Well this is not just a “good” strategy to improve sales but this is also an excellent strategy to increase young pregnant women, more deaths from venereal diseases, abandoned children, abortions, among other causes of early sexual activity that commercials have encouraged. It can display data, in Ecuador “The average number of children in the younger generation is even higher: 5.5 young mothers, especially in the ages between 19 and 24 years”. And “There are an increased number of deaths from HIV / AIDS in men between 15 and 29 years”. (Senplades) “10% of women between 15 and 24 years who had a pregnancy before the
15 years, said it ended in abortion” (CNNA) All of these are consequently to the loss of values and the ban influence that have brought the commercials.

Advertising often show women as sensual and as sexy, but the reality is that the image of the woman appears simply as an ornament or a medium for product promotion, and always serves as erotic seduction. So, first attracts the eye of the male spectator, later transferring his attention to the real object, which is the brand or product advertised. It uses a woman (his entire body, eyes, lips, eyes) for a best-selling products by calling public attention. So women have become, from a person to be an object to become a sex object.

In conclusion, we are saturated with commercials and especially with messages that are full of sex, trying to use sex as an (a) strategy to sell. Actually, sex is a tactic used by marketers to sell more products and have succeeded, but at what cost? This will be an expensive cost such as seeing more women treated as sex objects, a society without values full of single mothers with unplanned children, seeing more abandoned children, with more STDs, with more girls who have lost their virginity before the age of 15.

“Funny Games” a Sshocking Rreality ( The title must be always in capital letters)

Michael Haneke shot in what may be his most controversial film, Funny Games, causing shock in the world of cinema because of his constant play and use of violence as a method of controversy. The reason for the fuss raised is found in the moral and physical violence depicted in the film, although the violent actions take place outside flat, finding, for me, a form of satirical expression happens in society, it means, look to the other way to avoid the problem that that become common incide (inside) the society because the continuous exposure in the media.

This controversial film is an attempt to portray violence in its purest form, without any kind of restrictions and without giving any social or psychological explanation to explain the behavior of the young hackers, I think, Michael Haneke raises the issue of representation movie violence and even, no longer a direct address to the audience about his responsibility for the images that you are watching, also, "asking what do we see? since the bombing of disturbing images makes us insensitive to these.

Michael Haneke with his film "Funny games" referred to the controversy of media power and the influence and responsibility of television, film and video games increased social violence unjustified, since communication is a powers that can move masses not only to do something positive, but also something negative, for example. News play with the viewer in a way that control their emotions, on one hand, showing a heartbreaking murder, on the other hand, followed by a Milan fashion news. the capital letter fluctuation of emotions we feel inhibited by the cruel event, and that counter with another to avoid it and just get to the news as another past event, it will be easily forgotten by one who will come.

Finally, Haneke criticizes the way use of these images, because we got used to having fleeting emotions that stir no longer, or we do not give rise to a feeling of change our ideology, so that Michael Haneke offers us a realistic movie style where the viewer becomes complicit in this sadism and murder of that family ("Paul" winks at the camera showing that we know the game, and we are powerless to do anything has against this). Summarizing, is the insensitivity of that many times we do what we do without thinking about this.

Haneke is a provocator of shocking reactions of a society, involves the viewer to be an accomplice of the game trying to create, in this case creates a wonderful films that delve into the evil of being human, and how terrible it is that why some acts are evil with out without reason. Funny games still find it a disturbing film, full force and terribly disturbing, givin giving a new way to show a satiric reality.
